29th Sunday in Ordinary Time - A. "Repay to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."
Jesus is verbally trapped by the Pharisees again, and his brilliant imagination allows him to escape, through one of the most famous riddles in the Bible. What does it mean? Caesar's reign is limited, God's creation is unlimited. Simple, right? Wrong! Trying to apply the religion-in-politics matrix in any age is difficult. The U.S. Catholic bishops help us to apply prudential decisions within the framework of moral principles in their re-issued 2007 excellent document, "Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship."
